Giessen Campground Facilities

In detail

  • Location: 1450 m above sea level. Mixture of meadow and wooded areas.
  • Distribution/choice of pitch: Free choice of pitch.  Advance booking is recommended for stays of longer than 7 days. 100 pitches are available for overnight/short stays.
  • Parking: You can usually drive by car to your pitch. There are also sufficient parking places available at the entrance to the campsite.
  • Water: There are drinking water points everywhere on the campsite. Water can be supplied to camper vans/caravans by hose at a centrally located access point.
  • Electricity: There are numerous readily accessible electrical outlets everywhere on the campsite. Extension cables and various plugs and adaptors can be borrowed if required.
  • Bottled gas: for sale on the campsite.
  • Toilet facilities: There are 5 toilets for women, each with a baby-changing table, and 4 toilets and 3 urinaries for men. In addition to the centrally located modern toilet block, there are two small wooden toilet huts, each with two toilets, in the lower part of the campsite. Two additional toilets, one for women and one for men, are also available in the shower block.
  • Shower facilities: 14 shower cabins with hot water (7 for women and 7 for men) are  available in high season (coin-operated: CHF 1.00).
  • Disability access: Toilet with wheelchair access and shower, centrally located, with its own key.
  • Chemical toilets: Waste disposal point for camper van/caravan toilets
  • Laundry and drying room: Washing and drying room: washing machines, tumble dryers (CHF 4.- per hour) and areas for hanging up laundry are centrally located.
  • Washing up: centrally located room with four sinks, hot water (CHF 0.20 per 3 litres)
  • Campfires and barbecues: You can buy firewood for our popular fire sites from reception.
  • Breakfast takeaway: In summer, freshly baked bread and basic groceries are available from the bakery van every morning.  Availability is more limited in spring and autumn. Check opening times beforehand.
  • Mobile phone charging facilities: 3 lockable charging points with different connections.
  • Lounge: A separate room is available to guests in longer spells of bad weather.
  • Reception: For check-in and check-out, please check the reception opening times beforehand. Reception is normally open in the morning and evening.
  • Other facilities: 
    • Picnic tables and benches are available for use by all guests.
    • Reading materials are available free of charge both from reception and the centrally located "telephone box" (any reading materials you get or bring with you will also be available to any subsequent guests who enjoy reading).
    • Charging points for electric bicycles (6 separate points) can be found in Binn and for cars both in Binn and Imfeld (two separate points each).

  • The Binntal is a nature conservation area!
    • Your four-legged friends are welcome, but must be kept on a leash both on the campsite and throughout the Binntal. The local farmers and their cows would also appreciate your making use of the Robidog bins everywhere in the valley (see also the Robidog-Finder app) for dog poop and where new poop bags are also available. The same applies for any remaining waste.
    • Please follow the rules of the nature park and do your part to maintain the beauty and pristine nature of the valley. Take any food and packaging waste back with you to the campsite.
    • Rubbish bags are available from reception. Thank you!
    • Hiking/mountain bike cards etc are available from reception. Please keep to the designated paths and ride only where permitted.

We have had new facilities built and renovated for you

Construction of the new shower and toilet facilities began in 2017. They have been in use since 2019. The new facilities include a separate toilet with wheelchair access and shower, a room to do the washing up and a laundry and drying room.
