Impressions of Binntal

Binntal (1400 meters above sea level) in the upper part of Kanton Wallis (Goms), is a valley with a tributary to the Rhone, not far from the Simplon mountain. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a large variety of flora and fauna. The community of Binn, about 6500 Hectares, is comprised of the town of Schmidighischere plus the hamlets Fäld, Giesse/Holzerehiischere, Wileren, Ze Binne, und Heiligkreuz. Since Roman times Binntal has been an important part of the trade with Italy due to the central location on Albrunpass. It is also known as "the valley of the seven passes" because it has 7 mountain passes leading south.

Binntal gained international renown when rare minerals were found there, particularly in the Lengenbach mine.

Since 1964 Binntal has been protected as a nature conservation area.  Together with the communities Ernen, Grengiols, Bister, Niederwald and Blitzingen, it belongs to the Landschaftspark Binntal, which was created in 2002 and nationally recognized in 2011.

With 150 km of well-maintained hiking trails, in peace and beauty of unadulterated nature, it is a paradise for hiking, bicycling, rock hunting, and just decompressing.
